What is it & why should you use it?

A plio is a learning video interspersed with quiz questions to make it more interactive. It also consists of a sharable quiz score dashboard at the end.

It works by targeting the following ingredients that keep the learner motivated.

  1. Interesting challenges with scaffolds - Learners like watching plios because they find plios interesting and different from the regular, passive videos they consume. Here, they can think/apply the content they are engaging with.

  2. Feedback - The quiz results at the end of Plio provide the learner with instant feedback on their mastery level, motivating them to pay attention to the video & looking forward to their final score.

  3. Recognition - The quiz dashboard at the end of a Plio is sharable and can be shared by the learner in their community. Sharing their effort and progress can be highly motivating for learners and can influence others to take action.

How to use it?

  1. Identify asynchronous elements in your program.

  2. Check the feasibility of converting them into a video plus quiz format.

  3. Create a Plio on the official plio website

  4. Integrate with your experience - it can be used standalone or embedded into your interface.

Do check out the sample plios here!

Where was it used?

Plio was the central component of Avanti Fellows’ asynchronous digital learning program. It enabled them to engage high school students asynchronously and meaningfully. Read more about it here.
